About Me

Hello, my name is Kam Johnson, and I am a film major at Old Dominion University. I have
been working with and creating media for about two and a half years. I first found my
interest in this field right before graduating high school, which led me to pursue it more
seriously in college. Currently, I am part of a media organization within ODU and work part-time for a media company called Lucid Perspectives. Lucid Perspectives is based in
downtown Norfolk and was founded by Franklin Orozco. At this job, I help film a podcast
and assist clients who work with Lucid Perspectives to build and create their brand. The
company focuses on businesses that need a social media presence.

In addition to this work, I also create my own media under the name Confused Media. I
post my work on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The types of media featured on my
platforms include podcasts, music visuals, and branding projects for individuals in the
Tidewater area of Virginia. Alongside my academic and creative work, I am also a cadet in
the Army ROTC program at Old Dominion University. I plan to work in the public affairs
branch of the military to further develop my expertise and to help contribute to the media
that our nation puts out. All these experiences have given me hands-on knowledge that
allows me to be a reliable source when reflecting and giving valid opinions about different
forms of media.

In today’s world, the media plays a vital role in everyday life. I find myself consuming
various forms of media throughout the day, including film, short-form content, and other
digital media. Watching several types of content within a 24-hour time span has shown me that not everything released to the public is perfect. Because of my strong interest in film,
my eyes naturally pick up mistakes and creative choices made by content creators.

At times, I can be slightly biased due to my natural interest in comedy and action thrillers. I also tend to consume more short-form media compared to longer formats. However, I am self-aware of these preferences, which allows my critiques and opinions to remain well-rounded when reviewing any form of media. Some of my favorite media projects include films such as Jumanji, We’re the Millers, and The Heat, along with other similar comedic thrillers.

When it comes to short-form content, I believe Druski has perfected the format. His approach to creating and posting skits is a process that I feel should be studied by future content creators. Another creator I enjoy is Desi Banks, who follows a similar style and posting format. I am also inspired by music videos produced by Lyrical Lemonade, a channel founded by Cole Bennett. The way their videos are shot and edited, along with their use of angles and environments, has heavily influenced me. These types of content set out the bar for my expectations, but I remain an open-minded creator who is fully capable of forming fair critiques toward all media projects.
