Review Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and explain how each level relates to your experiences with technology. Give specific examples of how your digital experiences relate to each level of need.

The bottom of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is ‘Physiological Needs’. The way that physiological needs are met through technology is menial. I believe that basic needs do not have to be met through most technology. Outside electricity itself to cook and stay warm, there isn’t much else needed for basic needs. The next level is ‘Safety Needs’. I believe technology is highly relied on for security and safety. Through security cameras and online security for banking and personal information, technology can play a big role. The next level is ‘Belongingness and Love Needs’. I believe that social media can bring people together and form a sense of belonging. Seeing friends and family post updates while they are away and being able to stay connected definitely ensures those needs are met. The next level is ‘Esteem Needs’. Through social media, someone can help grow their self confidence, find jobs, and build on networking opportunities. The top level is ‘Self-Actualization’. While I personally think that social media or technology shouldn’t be an influence in achieving one’s full potential. Through the levels of ‘Esteem Needs’ and ‘Belongingness and Love Needs’ it might aid in someone becoming the best version of themselves.
