Activity Summary 1

During my time On the Chesapeake Regional Mobile Clinic I have been to numerous locations in the community. Many patients of all ages, come from different socio economic backgrounds and make use of the clinic closing the healthcare gap. Patients come into the clinic to address health issues such as physicals, blood testing, pelvic exams, and common viruses. By routinely going to different sites a level of rapport is built with individuals in the community advancing health promotion. On the clinic I greet individuals and sometimes assist with the consent and health history paperwork. During patient appointments I scribe for the NP and further my clinic knowledge in managing chronic illnesses. From a public health perspective, speaking with patients on how there social determinants effect there health outcomes expands my public health outlook. A prominent factor on the mobile clinic is the assistance with future plans or further treatments. This can range from assisting with medicaid applications or referrals to Primary Care Physicians for management of chronic illnesses. Community partnership is prominent and shown when the mobile clinic is not the only branch to attend these sites but partners in mental health, community service and local food banks. Listening to patients stories and individuals who give back to the community shows why community outreach is so crucial. The work done on the mobile clinic has been fulfilling due to being actively out in the community and stepping up for individuals that are underserved. This has not only broadened my knowledge but changed my outlook on how teamwork and showing up can create a positive impact.
