As mentioned in class these motives for cyber crime can differ from scenario to scenario. But I will break down these seven motives in order of what makes the most sense to the least. Starting with number one hacking for money being at the top. All hackers hack for some sort of reward usually that being money of some sort. Once they have compromised your system to reverse those acts, they usually want a payout before doing so. Second, revenge is next behind for money. Because hacking someone you can get someone when they least expect it while being discreet as well. They won’t know who or when you hacked them. Third, political motives as we all have heard before this is huge during election time. Anything to alter the verdict in one’s interest is a known thing. Fourth would be entertainment as some people hack to obtain embarrassing images or videos of people. So, they could exploit them which could easily fall along the lines of revenge as well. But another way for entertainment could be hacking to get free music or game before it comes out. Hacking big event ticket seller like ticket master to obtain concert and or sporting event tickets. Fifth would be multiple reasons as it is vague but could be any of the above reasons or something outside of the box. This is very vague but is different for everyone as to why they may hack something. Take a student for a example hack ODU to obtain the grade book system so he could change one grade to walk so he’d get his internship. There I listed 3 reasons within one that don’t fall under any of the categories listed. Which brings me to the sixth reason on my list is recognition. This one seems silly as the only recognition you’d get is from law enforcement and no pat on the back. You may get lucky and land a job with the FBI if your hacking skills are that amazing but that is a just something you see in movies. But who knows your skills maybe could get you recognize for more than being malicious. The last reason would be boredom the silliest of all these reasons. No one Is hacking out of boredom as there is 9 times out of 10 always some motive or reason behind their actions. They usually want some money or doing it our of spitefulness. There is always a reason. But that is my list from the most sense to least sense behind the motive of hackers.
