Short Essay 1

I enjoyed writing this the most out of all of the pieces I’ve done for this class. I love creative writing, and wish I got more opportunities for writing something like this in other classes. Writing it felt like a breath of fresh air.

It was a bit over the 500 word mark, though. Looking back, I could have revised it to make it shorter; I have a bad habit of rambling for too long.

This essay was difficult for me because I wasn’t sure what to write about at first. My thoughts about the experience were loosely connected and didn’t seem to lead to a point. Writing them down helped me to understand what I learned, and what this service-learning experience meant to me.

Short Essay 3

While this essay isn’t something I’ll use for my major or career, it’s extremely useful to me personally. I’m involved in disability advocacy, and because most of the information in this essay isn’t common knowledge, conducting this research was useful to educate both myself and potentially others on this topic.

The social model is something I feel strongly about, and I think you can hear the passion in the way I wrote. I could have written for pages on the neurodiversity movement, Deaf culture, and intersectionality, but it wasn’t something that I could have fit into a “short essay.” Still, I’d like to do more research and writing on this in the future, whether or not it’s for a class.
