Researchers can use the Data Breach Database to help study data breaches. There is over 75,000 reported data breaches in the United States since the year 2005, which was over two
decades ago. Breaches within healthcare are reported weeks to months later than breaches that happen in financial breaches. There is a lack of transparency in healthcare when they report the breaches. The information should be released in a timely manner and fully disclosed, but they were not. Using the database, they could see the change in routine and be able to go and make predictions on what could happen next. Research could be done to map out how different locations report data breaches differently than another location. Chronology keeps track of both when data breaches have occurred and when the
breaches were reported. They could be able to see what groups are most affected by a breach, like a government building or a hospital. There would be enough research to see how much of a delay happens from when a data breach happens to when the information is released to the public. By using the Data Breach database, researchers can spot patterns, and it would be possible to be able to narrow down where breaches could happen next. And by doing this, it would be possible to come up with ways to prevent the attacks.
