I am a 21-year-old, soon to be graduate of Old Dominion University’s College of Health Science. My current employer and internship site, (Fairbanks Native Association) is located in Fairbanks Alaska. I currently am employed as their Outreach Specialist/Coordinator for the Youth Behavioral Health Program. FNA is a nonprofit organization which started as an advocacy program for Alaska Natives in the 1960s. This program has grown into an organization dedicated to providing for the greater Fairbanks community.

As an Outreach Specialist/Coordinator I am responsible for contacting and establishing relationships with community shareholders, individuals, and families. I partner with other organizations and internal FNA departments to hold public events which provide access to care and decrease the stigma surrounding mental health care in the area.

My preceptor: Allison Tuel, is also my program and department Director. She serves as the Director of Youth Services at FNA which provides her with the ability to oversee all operational functions of the services provided within the department. She also helps to train staff and provide new avenues of opportunity to ensure staff are cross trained and fulfilled by the work they do. Mrs. Tuel has direct oversight of all Youth BHS grants and budget allocation, she works with the FNA grant writing department in correspondence with SAMHSA to ensure compliance and sustainability. She holds a Bachelor of Art in Education. She has professional experience working with youth both in an education setting, and in regard to mental health. This experience has provided her with the organizational and interpersonal tools to be a strong yet encouraging leader. She has worked in her position at FNA for right under a year and I am thankful to have joined her team.
