Goal #1: To gain a better understanding of the types of service implementation models and when to use which one for the best outcome for a specific organization.
As of now, the organization I work for is in the process of transitioning from a program-based model to a service-based model which centers family and peer involvement, and whole person-wrap around care. To achieve my first goal, I will continue to track outcomes of this new approach, not only its effectiveness with the public, but the internal barriers within this company. Barriers that may cause this transition to slow down or not be performed in the most efficient way. I believe this will provide me with the knowledge to better understand different service models, as well as how to implement them across a team of staff as an administrator.
Goal #2: To understand the environmental barriers in the geographic area and who to contact in order to move past them when performing public health outreach efforts.
Alaska only has 10% of road accessibility as a state. Natural environmental barriers such as the mountain terrain, marshes, and incredibly cold temperatures contribute towards these natural barriers. Resources can be limited; however, such resources that provide infrastructure are limited to be used in the few warm months that the state experiences. As an outreach specialist, I intend to discover what appointed officials oversee certain aspects pertaining to environmental barriers and gain an understanding of the state’s budget allocation. My position allows me the ability to do so and even the ability to meet with such individuals to discuss methods to eliminate or reduce such barriers.
Goal #3: Gain a better understanding of tracking methods when implementing services and programs for the community.
I work under a federally funded SAMHSA grant program that requires quarterly progress updates, budget expenditures, and other aspects which must be tracked. I have noticed some missing pieces of data for other programs under my organization with the same or similar requirements. As we move towards a service-based model of care delivery, I intend to help implement consistent methods of data tracking to satisfy grant requirements, and ensure such services are having a positive impact on the community.
