In science, a primary article is the first article written by a scientist that contains new or

original information about specific research conducted by the scientist (Ireland). The research 

information for a primary article can be qualitative or quantitative (Ireland). The primary article 

may include information such as laboratory notes, patents, experimental data and technical 

reports (Ireland). The usual elements of a primary article include an abstract, introduction, 

methods, results, and discussion (Ireland).

            A review article is an article that critically evaluates a previously published article 

(Ireland). Review articles usually contain a summary of the problem being investigated, the types 

of participants in the primary study, a summary of the results, a conclusion and the implications 

of the study (Ireland).

            The scientific peer review process starts when a scientist or group of scientists complete a 

study and then write it in the form of an article (Skene). The article is then submitted to a journal 

for publication (Skene). The article is sent by the journal’s editors to other scientists in the same 

area of study. The other scientists review the article and give feedback on whether the study is 

legitimate enough to be published (Skene). The article is then either accepted for publication or 

the article is rejected and the authors may have to revise and resubmit their article again (Skene).

The article titled Isolation and Characterization of a Novel Bat Coronavirus Closely 

Related to the Direct Progenitor of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus is the 

primary article. This is because of many reasons. The main reason I believe this is because of the 

fact they received funding and that they discuss in detail their process.

The article titled Bat Coronaviruses in Chinais the review article. I would say it is a 

review article because it specifically states it is a review article multiple times throughout the 

article and the article discusses multiple studies.
