A vulnerability they identified was that there is now a chance that DNA could infect or put a virus into the system that reads it. Creating a completely new type of vulnerability. The isolation strategies such as VMs and containers helps they test certain things while preemptively creating a safe damage control. It contains what they are trying to do inside those isolation strategies. There are plenty of things that make me wonder about this, I knew that researches manipulated DNA, but I never thought it could be manipulated in a way that could create a computer virus. I wonder how that could harm humans as researches advance these ideas, and then also the harm it could cause to our hospitals and other areas that utilize DNA. I know that our intelligence world such as AI and robots are advancing quickly, and how maybe they’d want to be prepared say something does happen, but this to me verges on the line of creating our own problems. Perhaps I just don’t understand why they needed to do that research, maybe they did, or maybe they just wanted to see if they could. Either way, I hope they maintain some kind of line and limit to furthering their research and all the pros and cons that come with it.
