In interviewing Sian for this assignment, I was able to learn and get a lot of insight on what she does everyday. She explained to me how she has very busy days, but no day is ever exactly the same. Right now, she especially busy as spring sports are in season and she is mainly in charge of lacrosse but has to also help cover the other sports (baseball, sailing, and rowing). All the other sports that are in the off season still need to be kept up with as well so at times she says it can be overwhelming. With all of these responsibilities, Sian said that she does really enjoy the job. She is able to be engaged with sports even though she is no longer playing them like she used to. I really relate to this as I also played college sports and am no longer playing. This makes me very hopeful in the idea that I can still find a way to be involved and enjoy athletics like Sian is. Sian also said that the discipline she gained from college athletics has really helped her in the workforce, which again is an experience that I relate to and can be very useful.
In creating the infographic, I focused mainly on what Sian does on game days vs a typical game where there are no games she has to cover. I also listed her main responsibilities and skills that she has to use on a daily basis. She told me a little bit about some of the challenges or difficulties she has to face as well, and I included those on the infographic. I also included word for word quotes on things that she said throughout the interview that I thought were interesting and useful. I felt that putting quotes was also a unique thing that may interest viewers/readers. Since Sian is working for ODU, I decided to use ODU colors for the color scheme and place an ODU logo on the infographic.
I liked doing this assignment because I was able to learn a lot about a job that I could choose to pursue in the future. I also like how I am able to easily connect with Sian since we both come from a similar background. After I received the information, I also enjoyed creating the infographic as it wasn’t something that a lot of school assignments as for. I like being able to use some creativity instead of always fully writing papers.
