I chose to rewatch the UNC vs. UVA match because its a match that I like to tune into every year expecting a different outcome and there hasn’t been one in three years. This year the Tar heels showed an amazing performance on January 16 by defeating The Cavaliers. North Carolina’s wrestlers won a lot of matches individually which is what secured there win.

This win was very important because it was how both teams would decide on positionings for the postseason. The Cavaliers were looking for a win in their house, but they weren’t so lucky with going against such a powerful team who just wanted to show what they had to offer. The Tar heels proved themselves by winning more individual matches and not letting the Cavaliers get to many bonus points. The night consisted of ten matches with different weight classes with each match had a decent amount of points to helped the team win such a high amount. The Cavaliers fought a good match in the beginning, but the Tar Heels use the art of strategic wresting to fight hard against them. The Tar Heels decision helped the extend their lead by a lot during the dual.

Most of the matches were closely contested and showed a high amount of intensity which is pretty common in ACC tournaments. The teams directed strong defensive techniques and physically bearing. The Cavaliers showed lots of success with them have individual victories that heightened the home crowd, but the Cavaliers just couldn’t keep it together and hold up the fort. North Carolina’s deepness along the lineup which proved to people they were different. The Tar Heels capitalized the opportunities within the weight classes which made the pressure of the match shake them enough to a victory. The dual went on and North Carolina was able to keep up with the momentum. Virginia tried their best and failed though they where able to get some valuable points late in the dual, yet that didn’t help them. While they weren’t successful in the end they still showed an incredible amount of competition and made the experience worth peoples while.

When the match ended the head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers, Steve Garland, gave his opinion on the night and stated “We wrestled tough” meaning he seen the kind of dedication and agility his team showed that night. With their win North Carolina was able to strengthen their position enough to be in the standings of the ACC and continued on with a good season. While Virginia is going to be looking to make adjustments and learn what they can do that’s different. Both teams still did great in the middle of the ACC schedule, the matchup showed as part of an amazing program during this part of the season.
