After being in this class, it has prepared me to think critically strategically in how to communicate effectively within the sports industry as I continued to pursue a Korean force management with the focus and marketing, I will continue to carry and share these skills along the way. Doing this further will widen my understanding with how to engage with audiences, tell compelling stories, and build strong brands within my success.
As I finish out this virtual sports communication class, my thoughts on how the industry works have definitely shifted, and my perspective has evolved. This semester I’ve done a deep analysis into how the environments of sports, media, and digital strategy come together. With me having a primary focus on digital marketing as my end goal, I thought it would be a good way to understand how communication helps shape athletes’ brands, fan engagement, and public perception. Looking back on my experience throughout the semester, I can confidently say that over the several concepts and assignments that we’ve received, my future career in sports management and communication will succeed majorly because of this class.
The most valuable knowledge from this class was the hands-on experience that I got to work on. The digital presence and community engagement were extremely beneficial towards how I understand the communication aspect of it all. I now understand how sports successfully use storytelling as a way to build a brand and loyalty behind it. It’s seen as sports marketing essentially. This is important because sports tend to rely heavily on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter to maintain relevance and continue to grow their audience.
My favorite modules were the ones that cover the evolution of sports communication and how the traditional outlets helped athlete-driven media interact with consumer content and make it feel more relevant. They do this by a series of blogs, post-interviews, and campaign analyses, which help effectively communicate and deliver information in a way people can connect with. A way that we did this was by conducting interviews with sports professionals and learning what made them choose the fields that they are in. This was a way for us to highlight emotion and human interest within sports media. In the future, I aspire to help small businesses and emerging brands find their voice and learn how to market themselves properly. Going over these modules, I got to learn how sports franchises properly message their crises and championships. This will eventually help me learn how to manage branding for my future clients.
After being in this class, I am prepared to think critically and strategically and know how to communicate effectively within the sports industry. As I continue to pursue a career in sports management with a focus on marketing, I will continue to carry and share these skills along the way. Doing this further will widen my understanding of how to engage with audiences, tell compelling stories, and build strong brands within my success.
