Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Instructions
Exploring Culture
I loved exploring the Spanish culture. While it was very different from our culture, I did not see anything better or worse, or right or wrong. There may be some things that I may not do that this culture does, I find it interesting to learn about this. I am a person who loves to notice others differences and embrace them!
Due to learning about new cultures, it made me want to invest more into my own culture. I felt these people were so proud of themselves and what they represented. It showed me that these people live a very dedicated lifestyle to their culture. I have always noticed the stereotype that Spanish folks are very hardworking and I can see this in the dedication they put into their lives and others. The Spanish culture is truly amazing to me.
Engaging in Communities
For a discussion post, we were to research a University in a Spanish country. I was able to learn about a new community and school! I learned that there were both differences and similarities to schools here. Below is what I found and presented!

Interpersonal Communication
Throughout the semester, I was using Spanish in and out of the virtual classroom. During class there was Zoom conversations with partners. We spoke with partners about many different topics.
At the beginning, I struggled a lot and worried about how I would do with communication. I learned a lot through my own writings of discussion post and reading others as well. It was difficult for myself to have Zoom conversations, but I also feel I did well once I became more comfortable. I excelled at discussion boards, because I was able to use my resources to help me. I have learned so much from verbal speaking and written Spanish, but I would like to still become better at speaking.
Presentational Speaking
We were asked to do a few speaking activities over the semester. Inside of class I spoke with the professor and outside of class I spoke with PreK Spanish students.
I did have a hard time at presentational speaking at first. I was very nervous for the first oral exam, but have gotten much better throughout the course. First, I really excelled at listening and understanding others. Next time, I want to focus on more of what I say. I want to make my responses better for others to understand me.
Presentational Writing
During the semester, we completed a schedule on a calendar of what our daily activities look like. In the example below I have what a day of McKenzee looks like!
During this point in the semester, I was still struggling to remember some vocabulary of daily activities. Now, looking back I have grown so much! Still and even during the assignment, I felt I became more aware of the words I was using. I really excelled at creating the calendar, yay for organization! Next time I would like to add even more details about what I am doing, or more events to my daily life.
Interpretive Listening
Throughout SPAN 101 we did a lot of listening and interpreting. Whether it was during a quiz or an assignment on ContraseƱa, there were many times that we were to listen to a video or voice message and understand what was said.
Each listening assignment was different. I did better on the quizzes than the ContraseƱa assignments. A lot of times I would get frustrated more easily trying to listen to them. In the end, I did become better at listening and then understanding. I always thought it was so interesting to listen to these speakers. It was almost a guessing game as to what they were saying, and it felt so good to be right!
Interpretive Reading
From the first day of class, we were doing interpretive communication activities. We used our online textbook to do many of these reading activities.
During the semester we were always reading! One of my favorite things about this course was learning so much about the Spanish culture. While there were times I struggled to understand what I was reading, I overcame this challenge. I used many resources to help me along the way. I found it interesting reading about different cultures and their activities. I have grown so much!
