The Quest! A Tar-heel’s Mindset

The chosen proposal for my pen pal is a special event with some of the biggest known sports at the University of Chapel Hill (UNC). First to start off, the whole reason of me reaching out to UNC was because this is one of my dream job positions to work at a school of such high caliber and top ranked facility’s. Through my time working in the sector of facility/ event operations I have learned a lot of behind-the-scenes aspects that goes into a game day that I had no idea as the average game day fan. I wanted to create a special event for those who have an interest in facility/ event operations that goes further than just a tour of the facility. This special event will be geared for those students with an intent to work in facility/event management specifically in the athletic field. This day will be included everything that a normal game day will have. One main game day produces will be football because that sport is typically the biggest revenue driving sport. participants will experience multiple sports, as well as daily tasks. The name of this event will be, “A Tar Heels Mindset”.

As for promotion this will be posted on LinkedIn and UNC social media outlets. In the post description It will contain a brief overview of what It is for/about. It will contain the deadline to apply, and the link to the application. Also, an email for any questions/concerns. I will have an email set up for students wanted to inquire more information. This event will be held exclusively to 35 slots. This event will require an application that will include a personal statement, and a reference. It will not require a resume because we want to encourage those who may be looking to get into the field have an opportunity regardless of experience.

This will be a week-long event because it focuses on multiple sports. This event will be executed through the supervision of current UNC facility/event management staff. This includes associate athletic director for facility/event management, current graduate assistants, and Tar-heel ambassadors. Food will be provided for those selected but travel arrangements must be made by the participant. Start time is 9am and ending time is 5pm. Times are subject to change based on schedule game times. At the end there will be a conclusion of the event, there will be a ceremony to recognize the hard work that has been put in. For those selected for this opportunity will then have a connection in one of the top schools in collegiate athletics and will open more doors in terms of networking. It’s not all about what you know, it’s who you know and how you can get your name in the world of sports.
