Can you spot three fake websites and compare the three fake websites to three real websites, plus showcase what makes the fake websites fake?
When looking at a new website, look for these 3 main things. Check the URL, make sure there’s no grammatical errors. Look for typos in the website itself, and be wary of websites that ask for personal info when they don’t need it.
Examples:
Fake: “Chase-Secure-Login.net”
- Domain mimics real bank but has hyphens
- If accessed, might have poor grammar such as “please to login for your account security”
- Look out for URL’s with HTTP instead of HTTPS
- Asks for SSN for login
Real: Chase.com
- Simple, legit domain
- Has HTTPS
- No grammatical errors
- Doesn’t ask for SSN on login
Fake: “Amaz0n-Super-Deals.com”
- Uses a number “0” instead of letter “o”
- Only accepts payment through wire transfers
- The contact email on the bottom of the page is “amazondeals123@gmail.com “, shouldn’t be a gmail account.
Real: amazon.com
- Simple, real domain
- Secure payment options
- Proper customer service contact channels
- Secure HTTPS
Fake:”Faceb00k-Login-Help.xyz”
- Suspicious URL with numbers for the “o’s”
- Might have pop-ups that say anything from “your account was compromised” to “your account will be deleted-Login now”
- Requests credit card to “verify identify”
- Might show a outdated facebook logo
Real: facebook.com
- Simple, official Domain name
- No pop-ups
- Current brand logo
- Don’t ask for payment info.
