Cybersecurity Professional Career Paper
This paper took a lot of research and thought to pick out what I could consider for a career in the cybersecurity field. It wasn’t easy but I’ve decided to go with Security Engineer as my choice of career, for now, it could always change as I am still so young. I’ve decided on a security engineer because of the responsibilities it has to take on with being one of those and the creativity of how to design a well-secured network or even physical security to labs or server rooms or whatnot. Designing a security system isn’t easy whatsoever and for a lot of it, you would need a lot of background knowledge in programming in order to create a well-written security system and scripts for around-the-clock defense. All the creativity and thought that goes into it is what I really like, not only is there a lot of pressure on you for creating something very secure but your also fighting against the black hat hackers so there is constant pressure on you but, thankfully I work well under pressure and like to. Now when it comes to the social sciences of this job there is a decent amount that falls into place for this to work how it is supposed to. A big social science that stands out for this particular job is political science of it. Now it’s almost like what is the correct ethical way to set up a defense that would work so well not even a top-graded hacker could get into, that being said I say ethical because you almost have to be in the mind of the bad guy to have a good defense and how far is too far to know exactly how to work like a bad guy. I’m sure there have been moments where security engineers want to try a specific hack on someone or something else to see if it would work so that they can counter it on their side, with that being said I’m sure it has happened but how far have they gone? Do they use a practice system to test it? That could get into a political side on how to ethically protect your network or even physical security for equipment, server rooms, etc. Following the physical security that comes with another social science that follows under for this job, and that is economics. The economics of this job could be strict or fairly ok depending on circumstances. If you need to design physical security for your server room or even just a lab where workers work there has to be a budget to design the area. That’s where economics falls in as you can’t have a limited budget but need to be able to create a good enough environment in a physical security way that no breaches could happen to where possible equipment or information could be stolen. For being a security engineer you almost have the choice of either protecting networks and creating firewalls and whatnot or the physical security part of it with protecting labs and server rooms from any sort of breaches. Now personally the one that would fit me the best is protecting the physical security side of it. I’ve always found a lot more interest in physically protecting something other than programming in something to protect a network, now props to them cause I could never be able to as that is an extreme level of programming and is very difficult to accomplish. This career is socially accepted by society and something that is most likely looked at as something good that we need more of. The way the world is going today we need more people to join the cyber security field and start getting jobs where it matters to protect lots of people and even protect the world from any sort of outbreaks as even wars are getting to a cyber level. Also, in order to qualify or be great at your job as a security engineer you need to know and understand the trends of cyber and realize what is coming next to be ahead of the game. That’s why it gets sort of scary with the ethical side of it being that you have to be one step ahead of the game and in the mind of your opponent to gain any ground on them and prevent them from breaking into your network or breaching your lab. That’s when some people could get too into the mind of an unethical hacker and cause other problems that no one wants to fix. With all of this being said that is the job that I look forward to at this moment is being a cyber security engineer for physical security.
