Research Proposal: The research proposal served as the foundation of my entire semester‑long project. This assignment required me to identify a focused research topic, explore its relevance, and develop a clear research question. Using credible sources from the ODU Library, I examined early evidence about engineering graduates and the challenges they face entering the workforce. The proposal helped me outline my methodology, explain why the topic matters, and predict what I expected to find. It was the first step that transformed my initial curiosity into a structured academic investigation.
Annotated Bibliography: The annotated bibliography was the second major step in building my research project. I selected seven scholarly sources that would later support my final paper and wrote detailed summaries explaining each source’s purpose, credibility, and connection to my research question. This assignment strengthened my ability to evaluate academic research and helped me understand how each source contributed to the broader conversation about engineering employment barriers. It also provided the factual backbone for my Results and Discussion sections, giving me the evidence needed to support my claims.
Final Research Paper: The final research paper brought together all of my work from the semester into one comprehensive argument. This 2,000‑word paper used eight credible sources to analyze why engineering graduates struggle to transition from college to the workforce despite high demand for engineers. I synthesized research on experience requirements, internship inequality, skill gaps, and global competition to answer my research question. This assignment demonstrated my growth in academic writing, critical thinking, and source integration, resulting in a polished and well‑supported final product.
Resume: My resume showcases my professional experience, academic background, skills, and accomplishments. Updated as of April 2026, it reflects my growth both inside and outside the classroom. This assignment helped me refine my professional presentation, highlight my strengths, and prepare for future opportunities in engineering and related fields.
Final Reflection: The final reflection summarizes my development as a writer, researcher, and student throughout ENGL 211C. In this piece, I discuss how each major assignment—from the proposal to the annotated bibliography to the final paper—helped me improve my writing skills and deepen my understanding of academic research. I also reflect on how the course strengthened my confidence and prepared me for future academic and professional challenges. This reflection serves as the closing piece of my ePortfolio and highlights the progress I’ve made thanks to the guidance of Mr. Norris.
