My first image is a photograph that I found on Pixabay. Using the photo editing tool Pixlr, I added a quote. In the classroom or library, this would be a fun tool to use with students. I would have them choose their favorite quote from a book and edit it onto a photograph. I would then have students explain what the quote means to them or how they can relate to it.

My second image is also a photograph from Pixabay. I chose this photograph because, as previously noted, I am a big plant lady! I love lavender- the color, smell, the meaning behind it, the way it looks- everything. I thought this was a beautiful photograph. I hope one day I can walk through a lavender field!

I love your lavender picture! I love gardening. In fact this weekend, I was supposed to be planting about 50 plants in a new flower bed my husband just built. I’m building a pollinator refuge to attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, etc. and I have two lavender plants as well as a couple of lavender trees. I don’t know where you live, but there is a winery /lavender field near Harrisonburg. My daughter is a senior at JMU and loves to go there-it’s called White Oak Lavender Farm.

I like your idea about using the tools and having students choose a quote and explain what it means to them; that’s a great, thought provoking project.

A pollinator refuge- how cool! I live in a condo right now with a smaller patio, thus a very small garden, but my goal is to own a farm and have a huge garden with tons of flowers and veggies and herbs!

Thanks for the tip for Harrisonburg- looks like I’ll be taking a trip there in the future!

I’ve seen several people’s photo-plus-quote examples now. This is such a powerful lesson/project idea, and it’s really not hard to do with these tools (even for younger students), yet it never occurred to me before this assignment. Seeing your MLK quote, I think you have now convinced me to do this during one of those last days of school when we have time for lessons but no obligation to exact standards. My 6th Graders could leave with something really meaningful in hand (well, in their GDrive).

I actually know someone who farms lavender locally. I wish I could send you a “smellshot” of that field!

  3. Great placement and font choice for the quote. I had the opportunity to go to Provence, France and see the Lavender fields. Amazing. You would love it!

I love the idea of adding a quote to a picture! I definitely see myself doing this and introducing my students to this as well! Great idea.
