Collaboration

Collaboration with the classroom teachers and other colleagues is key to creating a dynamic school library program.  With a busy school schedule, creativity is sometimes key in finding ways to work together.  Examples of ways that I have been creative to collaborate with my colleagues are: gathering a basket of books about a topic I know they are covering and offer them to the grade level for extra reading materials and I eat lunch in varying locations to be able to start conversations with others on ways I can help.  It is also important to collaborate with members of the community and have them come in to read to the kids or volunteer during programs to keep them involved.  The attached document is an example of a collaborative unit I taught in the library on plagiarism and citing sources to assist the 5th grade teachers with their US History unit and state projects.
