Teaching for Learning

We as librarians not only manage the collections in the library, work with each student in the school to provide for their literacy needs, collaborate with teachers to enhance student learning and help with technology in our buildings.  We are also teachers.  We plan and implement lessons that meet the AASL National standards and help our students become “critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.” (AASL 2009b, 18)  I have included two lessons below of hands on lessons that I have implemented in my library.

This first lesson is a power point I put together to walk through the multiple aspects of the second grade book pairing lesson.  This is a fun lesson that includes a fiction and nonfiction book along with a mini field trip down to the creek near our library.

The second lesson I am including is a LiveBinder link that I created for my third grade classes. It is a pathfinder that the students can use to practice map skills by locating specific countries and understanding their resources. The access code is module5.
