Reflecting on the Successful Calligraphy and Chapbook Workshop

On November 7, 2024, PhD students Xianzhong Meng and Bridget Dolan led a fascinating workshop on Chinese calligraphy and chapbook making, under the guidance of Dr. Margaret Kilcline. This special event, inspired by the 701-801 Text Technologies course, brought together undergraduates, graduate students, and interested faculty members for an hour of hands-on learning and creativity.

Participants delved into the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy, exploring the elegant brush strokes and techniques that define this traditional form. The workshop also covered the craft of chapbook making, teaching attendees how to fold and sew their own chapbooks. Each participant left with a unique chapbook, a personal keepsake of their artistic endeavor.

This workshop not only allowed attendees to explore their artistic talents but also provided valuable insights into traditional textual practices. It was an excellent opportunity for participants to engage with the arts in an educational setting, fostering a deeper appreciation for cultural heritage and craftsmanship.
