Voyant Tools
Today’s workshop, hosted by the author of this post, Xianzhong Meng, at BAL 2027 on March 20, was a deeply engaging exploration into Voyant Tools—a free and user-friendly platform for digital text analysis. I demonstrated how to analyze Emily Dickinson’s poetry corpus using Voyant Tools in minutes and demonstrated the main frequency of words, lexical density, and word collections. It was my goal to bridge classical humanities research with modern digital methods, making sophisticated text analysis accessible even without any coding experience.
I was thrilled to receive overwhelmingly positive feedback from the participants. Thanks for everyone coming to today’s workshop, and thanks for Dr. Ola’s help. Many expressed their excitement over the hands-on approach and know-how to create a self-designed corpus using the website of Gutenburg and AI Tool Chatgpt, which sparked deeper insights into corpus-based research. I feel inspired by their enthusiasm and am confident that the workshop has provided a new insight for everyone coming with us today.
