Overview
Are you a graduate student interested in teaching, mentoring, or expanding your creative skill set? We invite you to join the mpark’s Graduate Engagement Program for Fall 2025.
This program creates opportunities for graduate students to follow in the footsteps of previous mpark fellows, and:
- Teach workshops in the makerspace, sharing skills such as 3D printing, laser cutting, design software, sewing, electronics, or other creative practices.
- Receive mentorship in teaching and curriculum design, with guidance from faculty and makerspace staff.
- Build a portfolio of teaching, leadership, and community engagement experience.
Who can apply
Graduate students from all disciplines in the College of Arts and Letters are welcome. We will also consider distant-learning students who want to lead digital humanities workshops via Zoom. You do not need prior makerspace or digital humanities experience—just an interest in learning and a willingness to share your expertise. We encourage both those who want to teach workshops and those who want to be mentored in makerspace pedagogy.
Your commitment
- Participate in at least one makerspace workshop or training session during Fall 2025 or Spring 2026
- Contribute either as a workshop leader or as a workshop participant.
- Engage in the community of practice around teaching and making.
What you’ll gain
- Hands-on teaching and leadership experience.
- Opportunities for interdisciplinary networking.
- Mentorship in assignment and curriculum design.
How to Apply
Please submit a brief statement of interest (1–2 paragraphs) describing:
- Your area of study.
- The skills you could share in a workshop or the skills you would like to learn.
- Your goals for participating in the program.
Applications are due by Sept 19 to Dr Ola Swatek aswatek@odu.edu
