Old Dominion University (ODU) has been selected to receive funding under the Modeling and Simulation Program of the U.S. Department of Education. This grant will be in the amount of $1,154,926.00 from January 1st, 2024 to December 31, 2026. This project aims to enhance the Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Engineering undergraduate major within the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering degree offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at ODU.

The grant is managed by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) of DOE. Sixty-nine percent of the total cost of the program — $1,670,069 — is funded by FIPSE, with the remaining 31% funded by nongovernmental sources.

One important component of the grant is to offer inclusive Modeling and Simulation Fellowships to undergraduate students that plan to enroll or are already enrolled in ODU’s Modeling and Simulation Engineering major within the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. A total amount of $570k has been allocated for both merit-based and need-based fellowships.
