The media plays a significant role in shaping public perception and understanding of any career field, but especially in cybersecurity. Movies and TV shows frame cybersecurity specialists and incidents as major events that could lead to catastrophic events. They tend to over-exaggerate cyberattacks causing “fear” amongst people. Media also inaccurately shows how careers work, but from a cybersecurity standpoint it is very drastic. In many movies and TV shows terminology is mostly inaccurate and does not reflect the intensive research and learning that goes into being a cybersecurity analyst. Many movies and TV shows use words like “Mainframe” and “server configurations”, but do not use it in the correct context or are just not realistic. Movies and TV shows cover cybersecurity incidents and practices that help educate people about potential threats from their homes and a national standpoint; however the accuracy and depth of the information given to us from entertainment can vary. The awareness from cybersecurity based movies also help push policymakers and organizations to implement laws and regulations to control the cyber world to minimize vulnerabilities and attacks
