Collection Development

Ongoing professional development is essential for library workers. Through the Library of Virginia’s online learning academy, I have been able to watch webinars and take courses to advance my learning. I have focused specifically on learning more about developing and maintaining library collections that serve our community through purposeful, diverse, and relevant choices.

Below is an exported list from Libby, a platform my library uses to provide eBooks to patrons. In one of my positions, I was tasked with putting together shopping carts of items for our Collection Services department to review and order. I felt that medical information was one of the most important resources we could provide, and selected the items listed below. I aimed to curate titles on a variety of conditions, especially conditions that patrons may prefer to research without checking out a book in public.
