For my Sport Professional Penpal project, I chose to work with Myron Allen, a professional basketball player who plays overseas. Myron has had a very successful career playing overseas, and what impresses me most about his story is that he began his career at the junior college level, or JUCO. His path from JUCO basketball to maintaining a professional career overseas is a testament to the fact that hard work and determination can open every door the sport has to offer.
Myron is not only a professional basketball player but also a trainer and coach. He trains athletes to help them improve their skills and basketball IQ. Since I am interested in training and coaching as a future career path, this is something that really caught my attention. Myron has leveraged his professional playing career to train and develop young athletes, which is something I hope to do in the future.
To make contact with Myron, I decided to reach out to him personally using his phone number. I introduced myself to him, told him about the assignment, and explained why I wanted to get in touch with him specifically. I told him that I admire his career path from JUCO to professional overseas basketball and that I would like to learn more about the playing and training aspects of professional basketball.
He agreed quickly to be my professional contact for the semester. He was very helpful and willing to assist me in learning more about the professional world of basketball. I was impressed by how eager he was to give back and share his knowledge.
