Interpersonal Communication

Boomalang is a virtual program where students can have interpersonal communication with a native speaker. With having this platform it can greatly help students to practice and to communicate with others from different parts of Spanish speaking countries. Also learning about their country, their lifestyles and their family,Usually the talking limit is around 15, within that time there is an introduction with the native speaker and the student. Also a topic that is require by the professor.

The first Boomalang that I have done was on February 22, 2021 with a Native speaker from Colombia her name was Clara. Our topic was about if characteristics are born with or learned from. This is not my first time speaking to a native speaker but talking to Clara was very easy to talk to. Our conversation had flowed very well with each other. I was very excited to talk to her about the topic.

My last Boomalang was on April 7, 2021 her name was Carolina, she was from Ecuador. Our topic was about our opinions towards corporations. Which in our discussion we were very passionate about the topic. As we had a lot in common and had talked about corporations that exploit employees.

With each virtual meeting I have with other native speakers I get excited, since the only native speakers I have are my family members. The first Boomalang I had reminded me how much I appreciate having someone to practice with. I have grown a lot since my first Boomalang since then I realize that I have more to say and putting more input on the topic. And having more spontaneous moments with Carolina than with Clara. Overall I had a bit of difficulty in continuing the conversation in the first one but I overcame it by asking more questions. Also another one was having long pauses in between my conversation from trying to remember a specific vocabulary. One way to remind myself was to try to include the speaker as well to see if they can understand the clues towards that vocabulary. Sooner or later I will have figured it out. I excelled in being passionate about my topics and understanding almost everything the speakers has to say. Since myself,I am a native speaker but sometimes accents and the speed of other natives speakers can be difficult but I found out that asking to repeat what they have said can help me a lot. Next time if there is a vocabulary that is commonly used in the specific country I will ask the explanation of that vocabulary. Also to ask more questions and not waiting on the speaker to only continue the conversation.
