Criminal justice and cyber crime are two very similar topics and majors. The study of criminal justice involves research methods for criminology, criminological theory, and the psychology behind criminal behavior. It is also the delivery of justice to those who have been accused of committing crimes. The criminal justice system is a series of government agencies and institutions. Cyber crime is the use of a computer as an instrument to further illegal ends, such as committing fraud, trafficking in child pornography and intellectual property, stealing identities, or violating privacy. Cyber crime also involves a network. Cybercrime is also known as electronic crime. This type of crime encompasses many different types of illegal actions, but all cybercrime uses a computer, network, or the internet to do illegal activities. This is why it is called cyber crime, since the crimes are done using computers and network connections. The way that criminal justice and cyber crime overlap is that since cyber crime is also crime, the criminal justice system and way of working helps eliminate this crime. A lot of crime in general takes place online or has to do with some form of technology. If you commit an act of cyber crime, you are also breaking the law and the criminal justice system is used to hold the person accountable. Another overlap between the two is that when studying criminal justice in college, students develop enough knowledge, skills, and training and having these abilities can lead to beginner jobs in cyber security. The main overlap and discipline closely related to cyber crime is cyber security. Cyber security is the protection of computer systems and networks from information disclosure, theft of or damage to hardware, software or electronic data. This ties in with cyber crime because in order to prevent this cyber crime, hackers are needed to resolve the issue.
