There are several ways to check if your computer is safe and secure. There are also ways to prevent your computer from getting unwanted viruses or issues. The first step in ensuring your computer is safe is to think about what needs protecting. Most, if not all devices have built in security and protection. That is the first step in telling if your computer is safe or not, if there are no built in security or protection elements. There are different signs to lookout for if you think your computer may have a virus. You should notice or look for signs of slow computer performance, for example taking a long time to start up or open programs, issues with the computer shutting down or restarting, if there are any missing files on your computer or misplaced ones, frequent system crashes or error messages popping up, unwanted and unexpected pop up ads, new applications being downloaded without actually downloading them, an overworked hard drive (fan making sounds and working when you’re not doing much on it), emails being sent from your account that you did not write or send, your browser lagging and redirecting, and malfunctioning antivirus softwares are all signs of potential issues with your computer. There are ways to prevent these things from happening to your computer. For example, you could install an antivirus software that protects your computer from viruses or malware. Also when surfing the internet, do not click on the small pop ups because they could lead you to dangerous websites.  When downloading things such as music, movies, or programs, make sure it is from a legitimate website or service. When connecting to public wifi in stores, restaurants, or cafes, you are allowing your device to become susceptible to viruses. Instead use a personal hotspot to gain access to the internet. If a hotspot is not available, then consider getting a VPN to allow a safer connection.
