SPAN 102

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

  • Interpretive– The word interpretive means to me when an individual is trying to understand something and interpret or understand what something means. In section 6, it was hard for me to understand everything the audios were saying.

In this section, just listening to the audio was really difficult for me. But the flashcards at the end of the section helped a lot along with videos.

  • Interpersonal– The word interpretive means to me hence the word personal is when two individuals are getting to know each other personally and a way of trying to understand with hand gestures if they speak a different language effectively.

Using hand gestures makes a big difference when speaking to someone with a language barrier.

  • Presentational Modes of Communication– The words presentational modes of communication means to me when someone is presenting and putting just enough information to help an audience understand.

The presenting videos in all of Lingo learning was very informative.

Exploring Culture

Being able to see and hear at the same time when explaining the Spanish culture helped me a lot. I’ve always been a visual learner so these videos helped a ton. The challenges these perspectives revealed to me that I really need to work on is pronunciation. The videos helped with that and helped me to work through a stereotype or misconception I had and caused me to view the world from a different perspective by having more of an open mind when it comes to their clothing style and foods.

Engaging in Communities

It is important to value and engage in my immediate community and the global community because knowing how to communicate with people from different countries and cities will be a huge benefit to an entire community.

It was really fun having to interact with a native speaker, my professor, and my classmates.

Interpersonal Communication

Talk abroad was nerve wrecking in the beginning because I was so focused on not doing and speaking Spanish correctly. Then right after the first one, I thought this isn’t so bad. The nice lady helped me along the way the best way she could.

When talking to my classmates, it was more comfortable. Only because most of us were in the same predicament. We were taking Spanish102f for the first time and didn’t really know what to expect. As every assignment went on, I felt more and more comfortable because I knew what to expect. I overcame every difficulty by just rewatching videos and recording myself on my phone. The only thing I’d do differently this time is learn how to organize myself with school and work.

Presentational Speaking

I had to post a video twice during this course. Both times were very interactive. I’d say those were my favorite assignments. For some reason, it’s not allowing me to upload my audio. It’s saying it’s large and im unable to make it smaller for both TalkAbroad conversations.

Both presentations were extremely straightforward and easy to comprehend. I had to work on my punctuation was my biggest weakness this semester but I can say it improved as the course went on and I look forward to learning Spanish at another level.

Presentational Writing

I also completed written texts throughout the Lingrolearning.

My Spanish vocabulary has grown tremendously. Seeing the same words over and over plays a huge role. Having those pictures by the words, helps me remember. Over time, I was able to speak in clear sentences and im able to understand and analyze a text easily now. What I can do better is think about how something is pronounced before i just say it in an English way.

Interpretive Listening

Interpretive listening activities I’ve completed this semester for or related to my Spanish learning was my conversation with my instructor. Watching her hand movements and hearing her emphasis helped a ton.

Listening to audios without any pictures was the most challenging. I’d say the examines instructions weren’t as clear to me. I would think im doing one thing then it would be totally different in my opinion. I overcame this y setting appointments up with my instructor for further explanation. What was most interesting was everything was online so i thought the course would be fairly light with the workload and available at any time. My takeaway is to practice, practice, practice. Im unable to upload my my audios because the file is to large.

Interpretive Reading

Reading different articles about individuals all over was very interesting to hear their stories and see where they come from. This was most interesting to me because literally everyone grows up different and has many different experiences.

I would have never known all of these places were Spanish speaking places. It’s even more interesting how in all those places, everyone spoke in different ways of Spanish. This was pretty simple to me and I didn’t find anything difficult with these. My biggest takeaway was never assume someones race or ethnicity. Just because someone may seem Hispanic, doesn’t mean that they are or know the laanguage. I’ve grown so much throughout this experience.
