Hello, my name is MaKayla Nichols, I am 22 years old and currently a junior at ODU. I am majoring in psychology now and have yet to pick a minor. I first enrolled at TCC and then transferred over here to ODU. I have always had a deep interest in Psychology but never really knew what I wanted to do within the field until recently. I knew I just wanted to help people and saw that mental health was a big thing that was effecting the people I was around like friends, family and coworkers. Now my career goal is to open up my own psych practice that is open to a variety of people and is easily accessible for those who struggle with mental health. That is also part of the reason I am currently enrolled in this course because in order to serve a variety of cliental/patients I need to be aware of how people’s culture can effect them. A big long term goal I have is to get a PhD in Psychology, I’m not sure if I want to narrow it down to just clinical or keep it broad. I am still trying to figure out exactly how I want to reach my goal but I am hoping the experience that comes with this class will help me figure it out. I look forward to working with everyone and I am excited to see how this semester goes!
