The Media influences cybersecurity understanding by defining the threats and prioritizing the big, dramatic ones that occur. Smaller scale attacks gain less attention than the main ones since they don’t hold as much traction as the others which lead to these being underestimated. The media also tries to shape who the enemy is in everyone’s eyes as turning everyone to see certain attacks to be from North Korea or China to make a bad image about them. A lot of stories also use emotional appeal to try and catch the attention of everyone so cybersecurity feel urgent which is good for the awareness but this can also lead to an overreaction from people.
