1.  How can you tell if your computer is safe?

2. Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

You can tell if your computer is safe through a few different methods. An individual can run a virus detection program, update software, and check security software. Attackers try to gain access to individuals’ computers and steal information. Basic security software can prevent access and prevent viruses or phishing scams. Manually updating this software will keep the computer up to date and keep the software preventing any new methods of infiltration. Checking the security software can give an insight to how many times access was prevented or if malicious software is detected. Checking the software is an easy way to detect and prevent any malicious programs. Three ways that computers have made the world safer are through communication, data security, and technological advancements. Communication is much safer now through the use of cryptography. Cryptography makes sending secure messages a lot safer and protects vital pieces of information. Data security has become safer through new software programs. Cybersecurity firms protect organizations’ and individual’s personal information by detecting and preventing any malicious attackers from gaining the information. Technological advancements have continued to advance as computers have developed. First responders and healthcare facilities use modern computers to process essential health data or crime statistics that assist first responders in keeping the population safe and secure. Three ways that computers make the world less safe are cybercrime, data breaches, and an over reliance on technology. Cybercrime has affected organizations and individuals by stealing billions of dollars and information. Data breaches affect individuals as their personal information can become leaked violating their personal rights. As our population becomes more connected to the internet, the use of technology becomes more important. If the computers fail then a lot of our vital systems will be shut down or incapable of performing the life saving tasks their meant to perform.
