Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
Food is always a good way to explore a culture. With the smallest of resources, you can make a profound meal. You can tell a lot about a person in the manner they cook. How they handle the food with care to bring you the freshest and bountiful flavors. People tend to become more vulnerable over dinner table, and over the recent years, I have been blessed with friends of the family who are from Spanish speaking cultures that often invite me over for dinner.
I make it a point, as well, to visit restaurants that most people would not, or have not heard of for whatever reason. I am not a big picture taker, but after having to do this e-portfolio assignment I am making better efforts to do so. Even if it is just a video of me reciting something in Spanish.
Engaging in Communities
I have learned that when we feel connected in a community we thrive, and function better as a pack when everyone has the same mission. It also helps reduce stress levels when you are able to share the responsibilities of life with someone else who shares your principles. Engaging in communities creates supportive energy that helps increase the amount of joy one may experience!
Interpersonal Communication
The group activities or projects we had to do helped increase my confidence in my Spanish. It showed me that it is normal to struggle while learning something new such as a foreign language. Having conversations with my professor in Spanish helped increase my understanding of the language. She took her time with me as I struggled through grammar.
Presentational Speaking
Speaking out loud during class to answer a question in a different language was a bit nerve-wracking at first, but as the semester went along, and the more I learned, my confidence began to grow and I began to do better in the class. I became more motivated to learn the language fluently.
