Digital forensics has a lot in common with social sciences. Digital forensics works to find and identify material found within digital items. They need to use social science principles such as psychology to perform their work. They need to understand what happened and how it happened. The speaker took an interesting pathway to his career. He got put into digital forensics through his father and his IT experience. He worked within Australia’s first digital forensics team which opened a lot of opportunities for his career. His pathway is very different from modern pathways. When he first started his career, education wasn’t nearly as important as it is now. He said that individuals fell into or got put into the field. Digital forensics has become increasingly complex over the years and this isn’t an option for individuals anymore. Education and experience are critical for an individual wanting to enter the digital forensics field in modern times. I think the way he entered digital forensics was lucky since he was helped to enter the field and he didn’t need the complicated requirements that are needed now. Entering the field at such an early stage assisted him in getting into positions that are very hard to enter currently. He has worked in top positions through the digital forensics community which is due to being one of the first individuals within the field. I believe his pathway was very different from someone who wants to get into the field today and it is a much different and complex environment from when he first worked on digital forensics.
