Exploring Culture
The products and practices that helped me gain an understanding of cultural practices and perspectives is the Investigation exercises that were completed through LingroLearning. Through these practices, I had the opportunity to choose a country of my choice and research about a certain topic or cultural practice embedded within the culture. These ranged from trending art and artists, influential writers and more! These products and practices helped me better understand the values and attitudes in the Hispanic culture because it improved their quality of life and development. It showed me how my lifestyle in the United States is the complete opposite from certain Hispanic countries. I also learned that some Hispanic countries do not have as many resources and freedom as I do, and I learned how to appreciate my lifestyle more and be grateful for everything I do have access to. I also learned how unique and creative the Hispanic culture is! For example, I learned that Octavio Paz, is a famous Mexican writer who has won numerous awards such as the 1977 Jerusalem Prize, the 1981 Miguel de Cervantes Prize, the 1982 Neustadt International Prize for Literature, and the 1990 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Octavio Paz influencia su país porque su fue el Premio Jerusalén 1977, el 1981 Miguel de Cervantes Prize, el Premio Internacional de Literatura Neustadt de 1982, y el Premio Nobel de literatura 1990. ¡Octavio Paz trabajo impactado muchas personas vivos y demonstraste que cualquiera puede ganar un premio y tener exitoso en vida! Uno de los más famosos artistas en Argentina es Martín de Barcos. Martín de Barcos es un pintor y escultor del siglo dieciséis.

The importance of engaging in my immediate and global community is to learn more about the people, culture, environment, and world around me. Community engagement is also important because it takes action to influence a government, political power to implement projects as well as policies that benefit individual communities and contribute to social change.

For this assignment, created a Google slide about a singer and song identified with. Selena Gomez is my singer and “A year without rain” is my song. This helped me connect with music within the Spanish community and learn about their songs.

Presentational Writing
A presentational communicative activity I engaged in this semester was informing my professor and classmates on an historical event for our project through LingroLearning. I wrote about the creation of the string quartet and composers who have written Classical music for string quartets and more.
I have grown a lot through this assignment by having the opportunity to write longer works in Spanish rather than short responses. This project enhanced my speed and efficiency in properly composing a Spanish work with proper grammar. My speed became easier through this project however, I did struggle with vocabulary. I had to look up multiple words or phrases to figure out what they meant. In the future, I believe I should review the vocab given to us more to review.
Nyjah-Harris-1Interpretive Listening
A few interpretive listening activites was listening to my classmates projects on their favorite place they have traveled or want to travel to. We all had to choose a country, create a video discussing it, as well as providing pictures to create a visual demonstration in our video of what our country looked like. Also within this project, we discussed the different activities we enjoy doing, food, fun facts, and more interesting aspects of our chosen location.
A few countries I heard about were Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and more! Iearned about historical locations to visit, restaurants to try, and fun excursions to partake on! Some of the videos I listened to were challenging due to the speed some students spoke at. I am more susceptible to comprehending slower spoken individuals because it allows me to fully process what is occurring. I overcame this by relistening to their videos and analyzing the words to my understanding. What I found the most intersting is how some people went snorkeling in Mexico and tried exotic foods in Peru that you would never have in our country. From this listening experience, I learned how so many countries are different from another and that is was makes their environment special and unique.
Interpretive Reading
A few interpretive communication activities I read in and out of the semester are stories and vocabulary words. I did not have a project that required me to read out loud to my class however, we did have a story we all read together called, Finita La Gringa.
Some of the words that I was not familiar with or could not comprehend took me longer to get through because I had to ask questions, research, and study it in order for me to fully comprehend the text that I was reading. However, I overcame this difficulty by reading the story with my classmates and using an audiobook! This helped my comprehension levels tremendously. In Finita, I really enjoyed her journer throughout the story. It was very interesting and compelling however, some of the plot scenes were unpredictable, which made it more exciting to continue reading.
