New in 2024: Apply Online! You will need to identify from one current instructor and one additional non-related individual who can attest to your academic abilities and potential to be a teacher to serve as references for your application.

You will also need to prepare a personal essay of 1-2 pages as follows to include with your application:

a.  GEMS Sprouts Personal Essay (freshmen & sophomores): Your essay should address (A) who/what has inspired you to become a teacher, (B) your professional goals relative to becoming a teacher, and (C) the benefits you hope to experience if selected as a GEMS program participant.

b.  GEMS Scholars Personal Essay (juniors & seniors) -The personal essay should specifically address (A) your interest in teaching in high need schools, (B) any experiences you have had that might be relevant, (C) experiences or achievements that might show potential for success in teaching in high-need schools, and (D) your understanding of what your four-year commitment to teach in a high-need school system would entail for you. This is a serious and important commitment of a Noyce Scholarship, and your statement should reflect your understanding of and comfort with it.
