Mid-Semester Reflection

Considering your Pre-Semester Reflection, identify the changes you have made between the start of the semester and now, and how you are going to continue working on areas that you are struggling.

Study Habits

  • What classes are you doing well in, and why?

I am excelling in Sociology, History and my Theater class, I have been turning in assignments on time and making sure I am prepared for quizzes/tests/exams. I also make sure my attendance is good and that I am not late to class.

  • What classes did you identify as needing assistance in?

I am having more trouble with my chemistry class due to my weaker background in the subject. I definitely have to work harder to understand the content in that class but that is really all I have been struggling with, I still make sure I am ready for exams and am doing homework correctly.

  • What changes have you made (i.e. amount of time, location, campus resources, study strategies, etc…)?

I have been utilizing my peers and study groups to collaborate with others. I help other friends to learn content which strengthens my understanding of it and vice versa.

Transition to College

  • What expectations did you have coming to college?

I didn’t imagine I would have as much free time as I do. I thought I would be working and studying more than I already am doing but so far I still have enough free time to hang out with friends and get involved around campus.

  • Have those expectations come to fruition, or not?

no

  • How?

I still have a solid amount of free time to do activities around campus or hang out with friends

  • In what way is your college experience different from what you expected?

I thought I would have a harder time making friends and meeting people but so far, I have proved myself wrong.

  • What has surprised you about your experiences so far this semester?

Probably how different classes are structured compared to highschool classes, the pace and the teaching style are different from what I am used to

  • If you live on campus: What has been your toughest challenge with moving away to college? Easiest challenge to overcome?

I miss my friends and my cat back home a lot and also learning how to live with another person. I am also way more responsible for myself as well, I have to make sure I am going to things on time and holding myself accountable for things.

  • OR  If you commute to class: What is the toughest challenge with commuting to campus? Easiest challenge to overcome?

Major

  • Name something you have learned about your intended major that you did not know at the beginning of the semester.

I learned that being a full time Dental Hygienist is usually around 35 hours which is less than the average 40 hour week.

  • Have your feelings changed about your intended major? List some thoughts you are having.

I feel like the more I learn about the profession I get more excited to be able to pursue it and learn about dental hygiene practices

  • Is there another subject (major or minor) that you are interested in learning more about?

I am interested in getting a minor in Psychology or maybe women’s studies

Connecting to Campus

  • Name one problem or challenge you have encountered this semester, and which resource(s) at ODU you have/can utilize to assist with this situation.

One of the clubs that I am involved in does not have an instagram account which makes it harder for me to get informed about events. Though I can still see the future events in campus groups, it is just easier to access instagram immediately.

  • Is there a friend, roommate, professor, advisor, or group in the ODU community who has helped you so far this semester? If so, how did they help you?

Definitely the group of friends I have made so far, we all help each other out with academics and social wise.

  • Have you attended an interest meeting for a club? Why did you decide to get involved or not get involved?

I attended an interest meeting for CLCC and I really enjoyed it and decided to continue going to meetings and other clubs in the APASU umbrella.
