- Went to college off and on for 10 years
- Enrolled at university of maryland satellite campus while overseas
- Transferred to NOVA community college for prerequisites
- Applied to NOVA’s hygiene program
What are your basic roles and responsibilities?
- Patient care, debridement of calculus and plaque
- Education on oral hygiene
- Assessment cancer and diseases
- Maintain relationships with patients
What is your favorite (or most rewarding) aspect about the job?
- Helping anxious patients
- Give people a good experience
What is the most surprising aspect of your career ?
- Unkind patients who do not want help or to be there
- being able to see how much someone’s overall health shows in their mouth
What is the most challenging aspect of your career?
- Difficult patients and physical pain from incorrect ergonomics
- Taking care of your body and making sure to have the correct ergonomics
What advice would you give to someone getting into the health field?
- Go in with your eyes wide open
- Do research
- Do not be antisocial!!
