PHIL 355E

Cybersecurity Ethics

The cybersecurity ethics course evaluates the moral concerns that cybersecurity professionals face. The hot topics we discussed were ethical hacking, confidentiality, and conduct within the professional and business realms. The reflective writing assignment that I wrote at the end of the semester best represents the course and all I learned. In my reflective writing piece, I discuss the case analysis that I wrote throughout the course.

In my reflecting writing assignment I learned critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and improved my decision-making skills. In my reflective writing assignment for my cybersecurity ethics course, I was able to engage critically by exploring complex ethical issues within the field of cybersecurity. It improved my problem-solving abilities by encouraging me to come up with ethical solutions to actual cybersecurity issues. I was prompted to focus on my own ethical principles and prejudices, which helped me get a better understanding of how they could affect my ability to make decisions.

This was completely in line with my personal objective of developing into a highly moral and trustworthy cybersecurity professional. It strengthened my determination to create a climate of honesty and moral leadership in the field. I want to use this knowledge as I advance in my work to help me negotiate challenging moral issues, and make ethical choices.  Reflecting on my ethical principles, I am better equipped to make moral choices as a cybersecurity professional. This aligns with my goal of contributing to a secure digital world with honesty and moral leadership.

Artifacts that I have that relate to this course and assignment are the case analyses I wrote in this course. Those go into detail about each case, meanwhile, the reflecting writing assignment is a brief summary of each one and what I learned. I have already included some of those on my course page in my portfolio. With the case analyses, we would basically analyze a specific issue using an ethical tool. We would first learn about the ethical tool through a short story and then use that to analyze the specific issue. These ethical tools include utilitarianism, deontology, and many more.
