I would be most interested in the “Protection and Defense” category of the NICE framework. This includes defensive cybersecurity, digital forensics, incident response, threat analysis, and infrastructure support. To me, these are all the things that I think of when I hear “cybersecurity”. I would also be interested in “Implementation and Operation”. This includes network operations, systems management, systems administration, database administration, and technical support. I would be interested in these roles because I have some experience with most of them and I’ve spent a lot of time researching them during my first 2 years of college. All of these things also seem to heavily focus on working with systems, protecting networks, and keeping devices secure. The category of the NICE framework that I would be least interested in is “Cyberspace Effects”. All of the roles in this category mostly focus on investigating, planning, and analysis, which doesn’t interest me very much. I would rather work on the actual systems that keep networks secure than perform research, assessments, and make plans for how systems are laid out.
