Formal Writing

For my memoir, I wrote about my journey from Africa to the United States. I described in vivid details how I felt the day that I was leaving and my experience going to an airport and flying in an airplane for the first time. I also discussed my feelings of nostalgia, confusion, and uncertainty of what is about to come. Most importantly, I focused on how optimism changes things for the better.

The rhetorical analysis was the most challenging essay for me to write this semester. It is on a documentary called 13TH by Ava DuVernay, and it dealt with very intense and emotional issues, which is the heavily incarcerated number of people in US prisons and how it is disproportionately filled with African Americans. It was difficult because it was the first essay that I have written this semester that involved the four parts of in-text citations: Intro, quote, citation, and explanation.

Writing a food review was interesting because it was my first time writing a food review. For this assignment, my classmates and I, along with our teacher, went to a food joint on campus called “Handsome Biscuits,” where we tasted their foods and reviewed the food, the environment/atmosphere, and the overall service using imagery and other vivid details.
