Relaxation! Some cultures do it better than others; however, this is what I look forward to at the end of a day. This is the best thing in the world. To be able to come home and get in this is amazing. I never think about the people or cultures that cannot have this luxury nor do I think about those who have more. I just feel that my time in this small place makes up for all of the running around that I do. This is my special place. This is my inner sanctum. This is the place that makes everything alright. I have known that other cultures have used only one place for water and bathing and that the man is usually in the tub first with the hottest of the water. I get to run my own water and be the first in it. This is my peace.

Studying with good food and a great drink is a great way to make it through the summer. It is a lot to learn in a short amount of time. Having to remember to study is a little harder in the summer because there are so many other people hanging out and partying, and you want to do the exact same thing, but you kind of can’t. During this class, I have had to learn time management and how to make things happen with little or no time left. This is one of my artifacts because it will remind me of summer school and what I am working toward and what I need to do to go further.

The things that have encompasses this summer during classes. People may see this as a contradictions of sorts, but this is the true life of a college student. Donuts, shopping and exercise after studying and a bath, this is life. Now, O’Doodle Doo’s are the BEST donuts ever, but in a pinch and when the hot sign is on and you really need a pick-me-up and the Insomnia Cookie won’t do, a quick drive to donuts will do and then you just have to remember to do a little more exercise in the morning to take off the calories.

I have learned more over this course that the only person that I have to concern myself with is me. I am only in competition with myself. I just have to remember it. I got this hoodie to remind myself of this at all times. My culture and the people that I choose to hang around and what I choose to read, study and interpret is what makes me me. My mistakes and flaws are mine to own and no one can take my experiences from me.

This was my favorite artifact because it embodies culture and it speaks to the culture that I have embraced. It is a symbol of life and I love to wear it. It represents fertility and as a symbol of fertility the loop represented the vagina and the line below the penis in union with the vagina. The arms stretching out is said to represent the children created from the unification of male and female. This is man and woman in perfect union. By joining together man and woman in perfect harmony, new life is created.

It also has a spiritual meaning. From the spiritual point of view the ankh represented the key to all hidden knowledge. The loop symbolized the eternal soul as it has no beginning or end. The cross in this spiritual interpretation represented death. The ankh was the key to unraveling the mysteries of life and death. It also represents eternal life.
