Interpretive

I found it difficult to understand all of the words that were being said. To overcome this challenge I had to listen to the recording several times. I still have trouble with understanding spanish speaking however, in the future it will be useful to have practiced.

Interpersonal

This assignment simulated a conversation between two spanish speakers. This was challenging becuase it had the difficulties of listening and memorization. Both of these skill are essential to learn spanish. Practicing this helped me improve my spanish speaking skills. I overcame the challenge of this assignment by rehersing the conversation several times.

Presentational

While working on the assignment, pronunciation, I experienced challenge and growth. I had trouble memorizing the sounds of the Spanish language. Furthermore, it was difficult to memorize how to say the entire alphabet. After this assignment I was familiar with how to pronounce Spanish words. I was able to overcome the challenges by constant repetition and practice. I still have a hard time knowing how to say Spanish words that I have not heard before; however, I am able to sound it out with correctly.

Exploring Culture

In the discussion board 2 I explored the ways in which Spanish people great each other. This updated the way I think about Spanish culture. In discussion board 3 I explored different Spanish fiestas. This also updated the way I think about Spanish culture.

While reading discussion board 2 a lot of people said that they thought the Spanish greeting was more intimate. This helped to reinforce the stereotype I had about Spanish culture that it is romantic. Next, the fiesta video was an assortment of strange and foreign festivities. This also reinforced the stereotype because it made the culture seem romantic and vibrant.

Engaging in Communities

It is important to engage in the local community. In modern society this is done by working and spending money. These things also impact the global community. Without consumers and workers there would be no people.

I spend a lot of money at coffee shops and restaurants. This helps them stay open and create wealth for the community. My favorite coffee shop is café stella in Norfolk. My experience here is pleasant.

Interpersonal Communication

In this class there were many discussion boards to help guide us through Spanish culture. These included greetings, fiestas, social media, and universities. These discussion boards had videos and descriptions to respond to. Replying to the posts was a part of the exercise as well.

This assignment provided me with information. This allowed me to see the world with more position. I had a hard time trying to think of things to write. I excelled at writing things and replying to the discussion boards. I would do nothing different if I were to do this assignment again.

Presentational Speaking

In this class there were presentational activities on Flipgrid, and a pronunciation assignment.  The pronunciation assignment included the alphabet, and different words that started with each letter of the alphabet. One flipgrid was a simulated conversation in Spanish. The other was a video about people we admire.

In the pronunciation assignment I had trouble memorizing the alphabet. I was good at persisting until I had it memorized. Next time I will learn faster. Next, was a flipgrid where we discussed out favorite person. It was challenging to acquire the vocabulary to complete the video. I overcame the challenge by going over all of the vocabulary. Finally, was the simulated conversation. This was the hardest because I had to listen and memorize. I overcame the challenge by rehearsing the conversation many times.

Presentational Writing

In this class there were many discussion boards that related to Spanish culture. Reading and writing these was good for learning about Spanish culture.  

SITE

Each of the activities provided me with insite into Spanish culture. It was difficult to know how to respond to the information provided. For example, I am not sure how the fiestas shown differ from my culture because I do not know what my culture engages in. Next, the discussion board about the university in Spain was enlightening. It made the university sounds like a futuristic institution with a lot of potential. I overcame all of the difficulties by thinking until my brain provided me with insight. Next time I could think faster.

Interpretive Listening

In this class there were many assignments where I had to listen to what was being said. Some of them where listening to Spanish conversations and some were listening to isolated phrases.  

The conversation recording were difficult to understand. I know the words they are saying when written down; however, when they are being spoken, I was not able to understand them. This is because I am not familiar with the sound and speed of Spanish. I overcame this by practice. Eventually I got better at picking out what was being said. I still need to improve it this area.

Interpretive Reading

In this class I had to read examples of Spanish conversation. There was articles and conversations.  

It was easier to read spanish then to listen to it. The reading assignment were not diffiicult for me; however, the questions that followed were confusing. I found mystelf understanding what the paragraph was saying, and still not knowing the answer. I got better at this through out the semester. The excersizing where I had to fill in the blanks of the paragraphs helped me improve.
