“Cybersecurity is the organization and collection of resources, processes, and structures used to protect cyberspace and cyberspace-enabled systems from occurrences that misalign de jure from de facto property rights” Dan Craigen. As a student majoring in information technology systems, cybersecurity technology is a very important step toward my objective to become an engineer. My goal is to become a network engineer so I can manage and protect network security from hacker and thief online. Basically, cybersecurity technology is the course I need to learn to protect data and network from hacker by creating firewall and use crypted information. One of the reasons I select cybersecurity technology has my first class is because I want to learn more about policies and security concepts. I want to know the best practice and training so I can use them to protect the organization that I will work for some days. Studies and polls show that cybersecurity technology job will be in high demand in a few years. With a degree in information systems technology, I would be better prepared for the demand ahead.
There are other majors that are teaching at Old Dominion University which are related to cybersecurity like advanced engineering-cyber systems security. This course provides a deep understanding of the cyber security threats faced by the computer systems; it prepares student with better knowledge of computer. Computer engineering teach you about a broad engineering background and comprehensive foundation of the computer and how to protect your machine, it teaches student more about the main computer. System engineering provides a deep approach to deploy and maintenance of successful system solution to complex problems, it helps to be a problem solver. Lastly, cybersecurity is designed to train professional additional skills to manage and secure cyber data which is the most important part about cybersecurity.
