What disciplines do you see represented in these 50 jobs?
Among the 50 jobs listed on “50 Cybersecurity Titles That Every Job Seeker Should Know About”, there are at least three disciplines that can be seen from a surface level view: mathematics, psychology, and computer science. Some people might not see mathematics as an important discipline within the Cybersecurity job field. However, I believe that mathematics can be beneficial from the perspective of someone who does coding. As someone who has done coding, math is the foundation for how code might be written. Compared to learning math in a classroom setting, coding can sometimes use a variety of formulas that we may have never thought about using from a technology standpoint. Even basic encryption can be the simplest math that we have learned in pre-k. Depending on how one’s mind works, psychology can be used as a way to understand a criminal and/or hacker’s mind. By understanding the mindset of a hacker, we could possibly predict future attacks or even stop ones that are currently happening. With the ever growing world of technology, I believe computer science is needed to further understand the digital world. The world of technological advancements are, in my opinion, changing everyday. This can include the recent development of AI where these programs can write papers, generate images, and so much more that can make our life easier. However, it is a new form of technology that can be used to steal personal data from people.
What skills are required for the two jobs you selected?
From the list of jobs from “50 Cybersecurity Titles That Every Job Seeker Should Know About”, I selected Cybersecurity Software Developer and Data Recovery Specialist. For a cybersecurity software developer, they need experience using Linux, software design, encryption, and VPNs (citation). Data recovery specialists should understand malware removal tools, web-hosting security, vulnerabilities and solution procedures (citation).
What was your biggest surprise?
When it comes to learning about the digital world, I feel that there is not much that can really surprise me with how our technology is rapidly changing. This is due to growing up in a very technology oriented household where my dad studied programming and fixed computers on the side by hacking them to save personal documents for people. I’ve learned by watching my dad build and fix computers that a lot of unexpected events can occur at any moment. However, that is why we must be prepared to face any unexpected challenges that could present itself in one of the fifty jobs listed on the reading.
