Mid-Semester Reflection

Considering your Pre-Semester Reflection, identify the changes you have made between the start of the semester and now, and how you are going to continue working on areas that you are struggling.

I am currently doing well in both math and principles of public health. I enjoy listening in math if I understand the formula or problem, allowing me to tackle complex problems with confidence. Principles of public health help me with my passion for helping communities and my goal of becoming a nurse practitioner.

I have made significant changes to my time management and study strategies to improve my performance in all my classes. I started by setting a consistent study schedule that dedicates specific blocks of time to each subject, allowing me to review concepts regularly rather than cramming before exams.

I expected it to be a hard but fulfilling experience that would push me both academically and personally. I expected a harder workload and the need to improve my time management skills in order for handling the freedom and responsibility that college required.

Many of my expectations have come to fruition. College has indeed been challenging, particularly with the academic workload and need for effective time management, but I have adapted by setting a structured schedule.

College has pushed me to grow by demanding stronger discipline, adaptability and resilience. Academically, the workload has taught me the importance of consistent study habits and time management. I have had to become more organized, setting priorities and breaking down assignments into smaller, more manageable tasks.

My college experience has been different from what I expected. First, I expected that academics would be my biggest challenge, but I have found that balancing academic demands with social life and self care has been equally important and sometimes difficult.

Unexpected aspects have been the level of collaboration and community among students. I expected a more competitive atmosphere, but instead, I have found that many students are willing to work together, share resources, and help each other study.

The toughest being the unpredictability of traffic and travel time. The easiest challenge to overcome has been finding ways to use my commute productively. I have started listening to podcasts or audiobooks related to my courses, which helps me stay engaged with the material even when I’m not physically in class.

I have learned about nursing, my intended major, that I did not know at the beginning of the semester is the extensive emphasis on holistic patient care. I thought the focus was primarily on medical knowledge and technical skills, but I have come to understand how crucial it is to address patients’ emotional and social.

My feelings about my intended major in nursing have remained strong throughout the semester. Learning more about the holistic approach to patient care and factors affecting health has only reinforced my passion for this field. I still feel excited about the prospect of becoming a nurse practitioner.

As of now there is no other subject that I am interested in.

I don’t have any problems or challenges that I encountered this semester.

My professor has been incredibly helpful this semester, significantly contributing to my learning experience. They take the time to provide clear explanations and are always willing to clarify complex topics in my classes.

I did not attend an interesting meeting for a club because after my classes I have a full time job schedule.
