Activity 1
I had interactions with MyNgoc Nguyen, the program manager at the ODU Center of Global Health about different events going on. Also, MyNgoc talks to me about the different events and projects they are working on. I interact with Jamie Edmonds when my internship preceptor Michelle Kekeh is not at the center to log me into the computer so I can perform my tasks. I enjoy talking to MyNgoc, Ms. Jamie, and Michelle because they are willing to help me with my tasks. A volunteer comes to the center on Mondays and Wednesdays and we are working together on the C2C Ghana project. My duties as an intern are to help develop a questionnaire for Healthy Chesapeake Food Connection Survey, work on a spreadsheet on a survey in excel by finding the frequency, and recently worked on a script for the C2C Ghana project as well as the literature review. For the questionnaire survey, Michelle would tell me to go to certain websites and find questions that are about demographics like race and other information about the farmers market accessibility. The spreadsheet I put the information in categories and then plugged in the numbers. I had to write my script for the video for the C2C Ghana project that will be shown to the children in Ghana that will help promote ODU and why I am interested in the project. The volunteer and I practiced our scripts and gave each other feedback. Some skills I have learned was how to develop a questionnaire survey and write a literature review. Also, went to the safeTalk training program to learn about the signs of suicide and how to deal with the issue before something bad happens.
Activity 2
I had more interactions with MyNgoc, the program manager, about the C2C Ghana project especially about the video, literature review, and handwashing game. My preceptor, Michelle Kekeh would tell me what to look up for the literature review part of the C2C Ghana project. She told me to look for information on handwashing and infectious diseases. MyNgoc told me to look at the handwashing games in Ghana and other game ideas to do. I still interact with Ms. Jamie when Michelle or MyMgoc is not at the Center but lately, she has not been at the Center as much. I talk to volunteer that comes on Mondays and Wednesdays. Some of our discussions include plans after graduation and an MGMT class that we are taking together but at different times. We had a meeting with Irv, the person that does marketing for the College of Health Sciences building. We did a practice run of our scripts and got some feedback on what we did good and to improve on. The week before spring break we did the video and it went amazing. After the video was done and spring break was over, I continued to work on the literature review and the game. My role for the C2C Ghana project is to write my script and do a video that will be viewed by the boys and girls in Ghana. I saw the final product of the video and I was pleased with it. I continued research on handwashing and infectious diseases for the literature review. I found some interesting articles on handwashing and infectious diseases. I just started looking up handwashing games and hopefully find some that are different from the ones that are played in Ghana. Also, went to Thinking With A Curious Mind that was sponsored by ODU Center of Global Health. At the event, they showed the video that the volunteer and I worked on and the people who are working in Ghana that started the project C2C Ghana. Some skills I have learned so far was preparing and doing a video. The experience made me feel comfortable getting in front of the camera and delivering an important message. I made some mistakes while shooting the video but learned to have fun and that good editing will make it okay. Last skill I learned was organizational structure when talking to MyNgoc. MyNgoc told me as I get into my career I will learn about the organizational structure and how to deal with stressful situations as an administrator.
